塱原位於河上鄉、燕崗附近，離上水市中心不遠，但倒是一片雀鳥天堂，是候鳥主要在港的停留地點之一。而三百多塊不同種類的乾濕農地，及魚塘、荷花池、水道等，構成了一個多樣化的生態環境。

現在看到塱原仍然是大片農地，自然景色盡收眼簾，實有賴當年環保團體等的強烈反對，令九鐵放棄以高架天橋的方式興建落馬洲支線，把這片土地一分為二。

包圍著這片土地的五條村落－河上鄉、燕崗、松柏塱、金錢村及古洞，部分村民於這片土地上務農，出產如西洋菜，生菜，通菜，亦為這片濕地帶來一份人文鄉土的聯繫。這一點，亦是這兒有趣的原因，保留著的不只是景色生態，而是那份的人文情誼，及當地人的生活及務農方式。但願這兒可以繼續保留下去，不要發展成如天水圍那樣的濕地公園。保育，不是發展甚麼甚麼濕地公園，只保留一個驅殼就才是保育，而是要把人情連結起來。

於這片土地上，可看到一片遼綠的田野，聽到百家爭鳴，起伏不停的雀鳥聲音，聞到土壤的氣味，自然的氣息，實為一個叫你回歸自然的好去處。敬請，遊覽時尊重自然，尊重村民。

From Long Valley, Sheung Shui, Hong Kong. Long Valley is a piece of wetland near Sheung Shui – a new town with lots of residential buildings and housing estates in Hong Kong. This piece of wetland became notable since 2000 as the railway company in Hong Kong proposed building a flyover of railroad across this piece of the Hong Kong’s last and largest agricultural wetland. Finally environmental groups won the battle. The railroad was finally built in form of tunnel and allow this wonderful piece of land get preserved.
